Gal Gadot has provided an exciting update on the highly-anticipated upcoming movie project, Cleopatra. Set to portray the legendary Queen of Egypt, the star of Wonder Woman and Fast & Furious is adamant that the film must convey a respectful and accurate representation of her life and legacy.
The 38-year-old actress’ involvement in the project dates back to 2020 when it was originally attached to director Patty Jenkins, who helmed both Wonder Woman films. Later, the reins were handed over to Kari Skogland. However, since then there’s been very little news reported about the epic movie.
Gadot remains confident that Cleopatra will be a true reflection of the strong, powerful and influential figure which the world knows today. Now, fans are finally getting more information regarding this much-awaited feature film – and they can’t help but anticipate its release!
Gal Gadot recently sat down with Flaunt magazine to discuss the highly anticipated film adaptation of Cleopatra. The script is crafted by award-winning writer Laeta Kalogridis, and it’s one that Gadot finds “beautiful”. While she expressed eagerness to begin production on the project, she noted that responsibility and respect for such an iconic figure should be taken into consideration.
The face of “Wonder Woman” isn’t the only one captivated by the legendary women behind Cleopatra— audiences everywhere have been captured by her strength and boldness as a female leader. She dominated a man’s world, pushing Egypt to its greatest heights in terms of territory and culture. On top of her already impressive résumé, there were also the notorious love affairs with Julius Caesar and Mark Antony– all of which have been immortalized in books and on the big screen.
It’s no surprise then that viewers excitedly await the release of this new installment– but it’s clear that Gadot and Kalogridis plan to take their time to produce a truly special depiction of Cleopatra’s life.
Gal Gadot’s dream role as the legendary queen, Cleopatra, has been met with both praise and criticism. At the heart of it all is Gadot’s desire to portray the faithful representation of Cleopatra that is so fondly remembered by many. Unsurprisingly, some have taken issue with the fact that Gadot is not Macedonian and will likely be whitewashing the role of Cleopatra – even though Cleopatra was not actually Egyptian, she was Macedonian.
Gadot is undeterred by these criticisms and maintains her respect and passion for the role, refusing to let any false narratives go unchecked, instead aiming to celebrate the extraordinary culture and accomplishments of the great queen. In order to do this, the “Red Notice” actress has declared her intention to take a “careful and thoughtful” approach in accurately depicting the famous ruler. So we can all eagerly look forward to a respectful and nuanced take on Cleopatra from the mind of Gal Gadot and her team.
