While many of us may be glued to our screens, following the devastation of the wildfires in Hawaii, two stars have broken their silence. Not only are Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Jason Momoa sending their thoughts and prayers to those impacted by the natural disaster, but they are also using their platforms in order to encourage donations.
In a video posted on Instagram on Sunday, Johnson expressed his heartbreak at the destruction caused by the wildfires, urging his followers to make a difference. “I know that, by now, all of you around the world have seen the complete destruction and devastation that has hit our Hawaiian islands — our island of Maui — and I’m completely heartbroken over this and I know all of you are too,” he said. “Everything that I’ve seen transpire over these past couple of days, everything that continues to transpire hour by hour, minute by minute, it’s all heartbreaking.”
The actor, best known for his time with the WWE, also shared information about how to make monetary donations through Hawaii Community Foundation. He concluded his message with a rallying call: “We gotta work together now to help each other and help rebuild and restore. That’s exactly what we’ll do.” And Hollywood stars continue to offer their support for those affected.
Actor Dwayne Johnson – who is of Samoan descent – has revealed that he’s been in contact with Gound Organizations to gain as much information as possible on the devastating bushfires that affected Maui. Momoa – also part of the “Fast & Furious” film franchise – has shared his own statement, urging people not to visit the island and instead support locals rebuilding the community by donating through ‘Aina Momona. He was born in Honolulu and urged people to show aloha. A big mahalo from Momoa to all of those have already shown their support.
On Saturday, the death toll from the horrendous Maui wildfires was revised to a staggering 93 lives lost, tragically making it the worst wildfire in modern US history. Across the island of Maui, buildings were damaged or destroyed, with the quaint town of Lahaina losing much of its beloved Front Street – filled with cafes, shops and other businesses. In response to the incident, Hawaii Attorney General Anne E. Lopez launched an investigation into the tragedy, aiming to uncover any shortfalls in decision-making and policy implementation. Despite the immense pain and destruction suffered in Maui, its communities must unite in hope – and justice – as they recover from this worst-case scenario.
