Usher is giving Keke Palmer’s boyfriend exactly what he asked for.
The R&B singer is out with his latest music video, “Boyfriend,” and the “Nope” actress stars as the leading lady. The teaser trailer revealed both Palmer and Usher, 44, on Tuesday, hinting at a dramatic video perhaps inspired by their recent relationship drama.
The full video was filmed in Las Vegas and premieres Wednesday, showing sultry scenes of the 29-year-old actress in a hotel room, sipping champagne, and strutting with a group of girls down the hotel hallway. Usher is also featured getting ready backstage before a snippet of the song plays.
“Boyfriend” is Usher’s clever commentary on a relationship gone wrong as well as his twists on the classic ’90s love song. Fans can see just how dramatic of an art piece comes of this once they watch the full video on Wednesday.
Chris Jackson recently received criticism for publicly expressing disapproval of an outfit worn by a local Vegas Usher concert attendee. In a now-deleted quote tweet of the former Nickelodeon star appearing with the Grammy-winning artist, the fitness instructor alluded to the dress being too revealing, given that the woman was a mother.
He later deleted the tweet writing, “We live in a generation where a man of the family doesn’t want the wife & mother to his kids to showcase booty cheeks to please others & he gets told how much of a hater he is. This is my family & my representation. I have standards & morals to what I believe.”
The incident was likely exacerbated by Jackson’s haunting lyrics in his new track – “Somebody said that your boyfriend’s looking for me/Oh that’s cool.” It appears that Jackson’s actions may reflect general concerns among men and fathers about decency and propriety when it comes to their own families.
Keke Palmer and Michael Jackson’s relationship is one that regularly grabs headlines. After going public with their romance, Jackson revealed in a recent conversation on Palmer’s podcast, Baby, This is Keke Palmer, how he’s held her to a “perfect standard” since.
“At first, it definitely was hard because it could all be very overwhelming,” Jackson admitted. “It was definitely overwhelming and intense at first.” He added: “And it’s like, you almost feel that pressure of needing to be perfect. And so, it really confused me and infiltrated my mind because not only did I have to hold myself to that perfect standard, I was also holding you to a perfect standard as well.”
Palmer shared some pictures from their night out on Instagram, while Jackson later scrubbed his own social media. The couple share a nearly six-month-old son, Leo. It looks like the two have a loving relationship that is capable of handling even the most intense moments.
